WOOSTER − The 2024 Wayne County Home & Garden Show turns 33 years old later this month as the family-friendly event celebrates spring and helps plan summer projects in and around the house.

The event will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28, at the Event Center and other buildings at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, as well as featuring some outdoor activities. Gates are open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.

Nora Detweiler, 8, decorates a bird feeder in the children's garden at last year's Wayne County Home & Garden Show. The show this year is April 27 and 28, and will include the popular children's garden.

Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce President Samira Zimmerly and event coordinator Sarah McFarland explained what visitors can expect at the show.

"We are continuing to try and make the event family friendly and fun for everyone," Zimmerly said. "There will be a children's garden with free activities for the kids, including crafts and games for the kids to take part in.

"There will also be a scavenger hunt for the kids, so they'll have a fun reason to walk around with their parents or grandparents or whoever they come with to look for clues as they're walking around," she continued. "They will get a prize at the end if they complete all the stops."

Bev and Atlee Yoder look at tables of flowering plants for sale at the 2023 Home & Garden Show. In addition to a plant sale, there will be about 200 exhibitors at this year's show.

There will a grand prize drawing for all the completed entries from the scavenger hunt as well.

The Home & Garden Show will feature a plant sale with multiple participants to go along with a variety of exhibitors (around 200 in all), ranging from services to landscaping and home improvement products for sale, along with fair food and concessions.

McFarland said she feels a special draw to the event. She sees it as a great way to kick off the spring and summer seasons.

Plant boothes were scattered thourghout the Home and Garden show held at the Wayne County Fair Event Center.

"I grew up around here and attended these before I started working them," she said. "It's a fun, family atmosphere. Everybody's out, especially if the weather is a little nicer. It helps kick off spring and summer. People are excited to work on their landscaping projects and improve their homes.

"This is also an opportunity for browsing the various vendors to get some ideas and get some price quotes or arrange to get quotes done," McFarland added. "It's kind of like a one-stop shot. And we do a great job including the kids with the scavenger hunt and other activities."

The Wayne County Fairgrounds is located at 199 Vanover St., Wooster.
