An arrest warrant has been issued for a 33-year-old Canton man who is accused of trying to enter the U.S. Capitol with a hammer.

Online records of the District of Columbia Superior Court show that the warrant was issued after Christopher Snow failed to appear at a status hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning in that court. He is charged with unlawful entry, a misdemeanor.

The U.S. Capitol Police said the incident happened when Snow was being screened at the Capitol Visitor Center on March 8.

Police said that as the man’s backpack went through an X-ray machine, an officer saw a hammer inside the bag. When the officer tried to further investigate the bag, the suspect tried to grab it and became combative.

Several officers intervened to stop the suspect, authorities said, and a struggle ensued. Authorities used a Taser to stop the suspect and take him into custody.

Police have not said why the man came to the Capitol with a hammer.
